During Q4, the turnaround of cases by our Underwriting pros is typically longer than our usual 24-hours; during peak season, 1-2 days may be required, depending on the group size and the carrier. Below are some of the current turnaround times for our carrier partners. If you don’t see a carrier listed, please contact your Word & Brown sales rep.
Many carriers are offering a special enrollment period for individuals who did not initially join a group policy, as well as the ability for the employer to make changes in plan options and contribution amounts to control premium costs due to COVID-19.
Please note: the employer will need to be compliant with the ACA’s 60-Day Advance Notice of Material Modification requirement
A majority of carriers already include a provision for a grace period for those clients struggling to meet monthly premium payments. Several carriers have extended this grace period due to the impact of COVID-19.
Several carriers have relaxed requirements for employees to be actively working in order to be eligible, as long as the employer maintains payment of monthly premiums.
Carriers have developed different strategies for rehiring employees after termination or furlough due to COVID-19. Waiting periods may be waived to ensure the employee receives coverage once returning to work.
All carriers are required to cover mental health services. EAP is an additional resource above the required benefits for mental health. At this time many carriers have offered free assistance programs for those employees struggling with mental health issues due to COVID-19.
