The Word & Brown General Agency was established nearly 40 years ago, in 1985. It was co-founded by John M. Word and Edward J. “Rusty” Brown, insurance sales professionals eager to address the challenges brokers faced when helping their small business clients shop for health insurance.

Back in the 1980s, different insurers’ underwriting guidelines were not integrated and that made it difficult to easily compare plans. John and Rusty knew there was a better way to help brokers meet the diverse needs of their clients. They built Quot-O-Matic®, a revolutionary technology platform that transformed Small Group quoting. It combined rates and benefits with carriers’ underwriting guidelines. Quot-O-Matic streamlined small business quoting for California brokers at no cost. It was the first of many insurance industry innovations developed by Word & Brown in its efforts to elevate broker-client relationships.

This team leads W&B’s initiatives aligned with our evolving digital technologies transformation. That includes the development and refinement of digital journeys across the web, apps focusing on customer engagement throughout the customer lifecycle, and API integration initiatives with our carrier, vendor, and agency partners. Our focus is ensuring process efficiency gains, adoption of industry-leading tech tools, launching innovative products, streamlining enrollment and other processes, and maximizing broker opportunities.

Compliance

Our Compliance team is here to assist with compliance-related matters, employer reporting, and complex regulations. They make complicated issues seem simple, with valuable resources and answers to your specific questions. We can help you navigate the uncertainty of state and federal laws affecting you, your clients, and their employees.

You can also count on our Compliance team to help you stay up to date on industry news, trends, training, and education. You can annually earn up to half of the 24 Continuing Education (CE) Credits required by the California Department of Insurance (during each two-year license term) during our online Week of Webinars.
