Insurance Sales Training

To become a licensed insurance sales professional, you’re required to complete pre-licensing training. In California, health agents and brokers need 20 hours of general insurance prelicensing education. They also need 12 hours of Ethics and California Insurance Code prelicensing education. More information on California prelicensing program requirements is available on the state Department of Insurance (DOI) website.

Insurance Sales Training

To maintain a California license, you must complete a minimum of 24 Continuing Education (CE) credit hours, including three hours of ethics. This is required during each two-year license term. The state DOI website provides added information.

In Nevada, you’re required to complete 20 hours of pre-licensing education for each line of insurance you wish to sell. If you want a Life and Health license, you need 40 hours of education. Three hours of training must be in Ethics. Nevada license renewals require 30 hours of CE every three years, including three hours specifically on Ethics. The Nevada DOI web page offers other guidance.

Insurance Training through Word & Brown

While it’s true you can go many places – including multiple online sources– to earn CE Credits for your license renewal, we make it easy. Word & Brown offers CE to California brokers without going anyway. Our annual Week of Webinars online training provides brokers with a way to earn half of the required CE Credits for license renewal in just over one week.

In 2025, we’re offering 12 CE Courses over seven days. Single courses are offered on June 2 and June 6, and two courses each are scheduled on June 3, June 4, June 5, June 9, and June 10. Topics range from “Fearlessly Swift: Customer Service According to Taylor Swift” to Artificial Intelligence and Security. Others include Social Media Strategies; the Affordable Care Act at 15; and federal and California Employee Leave Laws and Benefits. HRAS, ICHRAs, QSEHRAs and self-funding are also covered. Rounding out the course roster are a California legislation update; two separate Ethics courses; a compliance course, and health insights for agents. Next year, we’ll offer a different schedule, including many new courses.
