5 Free Training Services to Keep Brokers on Top of Their Game

Once you become a licensed health insurance broker, it’s important for you to stay up to date on the industry for a variety of reasons. One of those is so you can provide the best service for your clients. A second reason is so you can stay in compliance with your state’s Continuing Education (CE) requirements.

Here’s a brief overview of five ways Word & Brown helps you stay up to date and in compliance:

IN-PERSON TRAINING

We hosted more than 25 events across California and Nevada in the past year. These are especially useful to new brokers because they give you the opportunity to ask questions, meet and network with other brokers in your area, and talk with our team members. We also took part in nearly two dozen events hosted by local, regional, and state underwriting associations as well as the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU).

WEBINARS

We are always hosting webinars in a variety of topics. Our webinars will help you stay on top of the latest trends, products, and bonus opportunities available for Medical, Dental, Vision, and other products marketed in California and Nevada.

CONTINUING EDUCATION (CE) CREDITS

You need them – and we offer them at no cost at many of our events. We’re always looking to share information that can help you earn CE Credits to satisfy your license renewal requirements. In fact, Word & Brown brokers have earned 1,037 CE Credits so far in 2017.

State Continuing Education Mandates: California and Nevada requirements vary slightly, as outlined below:

California

The Department of Insurance says Life Only Agents and Accident & Health Agents must complete a minimum of 24 CE credit hours during each two-year license term. You will also need to complete three hours of ethics CE training every term. Additional training is required for agents selling Long Term Care Insurance.

Nevada

Insurance producers are required to complete 30 hours of CE within the three-year licensing period as a condition of renewal. Three of the 30 hours must be in ethics. Exemptions may be available for persons earning these professional designations:

  • Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC)
  • Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
  • Chartered Financial Consultant (CFC)

OTHER RESOURCES

After you’re licensed, you’ll find we offer a wealth of additional materials to help you build your business and serve your clients. That includes carrier forms, product information, employer and employee forms, benefits summaries, and more – all online. We update them regularly, whenever we hear from our carrier partners, so you know they’re always up to date and, conveniently, all in one place.

COMPLIANCE NEWS AND UPDATES

We help you stay up in compliance with messages from our WBCompliance and sales teams and posts to our Newsroom. We are committed to helping you when it comes to state and federal regulations on the Affordable Care Act, ERISA, COBRA, and more. And we offer compliance training to help your clients, too. (That’s a value-add you can offer to them and enhance your reputation as an industry expert.)

Once you’re signed up with Word & Brown, you can expect announcements about our events as well as local, state, and national underwriter association events. Check the “Resources” tab of our website and the “Events,” “Podcasts,” and “On-Demand Webinars” sections for a list of upcoming events and available recordings. You can also follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn for the latest news.

We’re here to help you stay informed on the health insurance industry and what’s happening locally, regionally, and nationally. And we do it all at no cost to you.
